What is a recovery coach?

A recovery coach is an NDIS funded worker that has mental health knowledge. A recovery coach will:

  • Spend time with you, and people important to you, to get to know you and understand your needs
  • Help you to find out about different services and supports, and how these can help you
  • Help you get support from mental health services
  • Help you better understand the NDIS and support you with the NDIS
  • Adjustment to disability support
  • Recovery coaches will work with a participants’ family, carers and relevant service providers to implement a recovery plan.

What is meant by ‘recovery’ under the NDIS?

The NDIA defines recovery as ‘achieving an optimal state of personal, social and emotional wellbeing, as defined by each individual, whilst living with or recovering from a mental health condition.’ For a more detailed view see Psychosocial Disability Recovery and the NDIS.

*Note: Funding for a recovery coach falls under the Support Coordination category in the NDIS Price Guide and Support Catalogue.
